Bonaventure Cemetery

Bonaventure Cemetery

I know I know how does a cemetery become a part of Parks and Gardens in Savannah but hear me out. Bonaventure Cemetery is a place of rich history, majestic oak trees, and a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Note (Hauntingly). It is one of the most captivating spots you want to visit when you are in Savannah. What makes it so special? Well it host a number of historic gravesites that really tell a lot about Savannahs past. It is even the place where the famous song writer Johnny Mercer was laid to rest.

But similar to most of Savannah Georgia the majestic oak trees always stand out. They stand tall with their moss filled branches hanging over forming canopies and arches all around. Though it is a cemetery visiting there gives you a sense of peace and reverence with a bit of tranquility. However the other side is that due to light and shadows it can sometimes be a bit creepy.

Next time you are in Savannah, ensure you include Bonaventure Cemetery on your itinerary.

Bonaventure Cemetery is open 8am-5pm daily.

Skidaway Island State Park is full of marshes which are areas that are usually waterlogged. The park however has miles of trails that wind all around the untouched natural beauty of the environment. You can choose to stroll or cycle around as they do have bicycles for rental. What is more tranquil than a scenic ride in the park? As well as you know Savannah is know for the towering moss-draped looking trees which you would see along with wildflowers….#justsaying. If you like just reconnecting and being one with nature then this is the place for you.

Added to that this is a location for all bird enthusiasts it is a great location for birdwatching as it has such a diverse ecosystem and because of this you have that range. Wormsloe Historic Site

Wormsloe

Wormsloe Historic Site is one of the most popular Parks and Gardens in Savannah. This is because it holds some rich history from the past. So if you’re looking to immerse yourself in the rich history of Savannah, then a visit to the Wormsloe Historic Site is an absolute must!

When you hear Wormsloe Plantation all those photos come to mind of the wonderful avenue of oaks. As you enter just get ready to be completely enchanted into a new world with the pathway lined with those beautiful oak trees and the branches intertwining to create a beautiful, natural arch that is prefect for photography might I add. One of those ‘Instagram Photo’ spots.

After embracing all that beauty you can now step into the Historical Museum for an even deeper dive and appreciation of history, which includes artifacts and photos that help to bring the past to life for you. From colonial days to now you will grasp a better understanding of Savannah’s development over the years. You will even see some ruins and let your imagination take over. Again get you cameras out and save these memories.

My recommendation though is that if you are visiting Wormsloe you should try to plan your trip. It is open to the public but also does offer guided tours that will help you embrace and understand things better. If you love adventure, nature or history then visit here.

Wormsloe Historic Site is open daily from 9am-4:45pm.

The cost to enter is:

Adults – $10

Senior – $9 (62 Years and Older)

Youth – $4.50 (6-17 years old)
