Chelsea MArket NYC

When it comes to the Chelsea Market NYC, it’s more than just a place to grab a quick bite. This bustling urban food court, shopping mall, office building, and television production facility houses a unique mix of food stalls. From the freshest seafood in town to the most decadent desserts, there’s a surprise tucked away in every corner. Literally I read about this place before my visit to NY and knew that I had to give it a quick stop and I am happy I did.

My reason was because I am a foodie, I knew my time was limited in the city and I could try international food in that location so I went for it. So if you are a foodie looking for a new place to explore then Chelsea Market NYC has got something to entice your taste buds. With a rich history and a diverse food culture, it’s the ultimate foodie’s paradise. Whether you’re craving hearty Italian pasta, spicy Mexican tacos, or a sweet French crepe, Chelsea Market NYC has got you covered.

The History of Chelsea Market
Chelsea Food Market NYC

Chelsea Market NYC is actually located in the former National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory and it is some of that history that adds to the allure of it all. Y’all know OREO cookies right! As time passed over the years the factory evolved and was replaced by a diverse range of eateries all over offering all types of artisanal goods not to mention the international food and more. It is like a treasure trove of food, drinks and unique flavors that caters to everyone’s needs. It really showcases New York’s cultural Diversity. Which is why I love New York so much.

Though it has transformed into the food city it does remain true to its roots because it still gives off that look of industrial charm. The architectural details with the brick walls and cast-iron columns just sits there to remind you of where they are coming from. I even got a little lost in there for a bit. It gives off that feel of back in time when commerce created a sense on community, you know?

Chelsea Market NYC is More Than Just Food

Beyond the Chelsea Market restaurants, is also home to a variety of boutique shops, specialty stores, and art galleries. Browse through vintage clothing, discover one-of-a-kind gifts, or get fully immersed in the vibrant art scene that thrives within its walls. The market’s vibrant energy and creative atmosphere make it a destination that appeals to all senses. However my focus will be on FOOD.

The Best Places to Eat

Seafood Sensations
Chelsea Market NYC - Cull and Pistol

If you’re a seafood lover, Chelsea Market will surely delight your taste buds. Make your way to the Lobster Place, a seafood market that offers the freshest catches of the day. You can either shop or dine at Cull and Pistol. Their extensive selection of oysters, clams, and lobsters are amazing. Treat yourself to a classic lobster roll which I may add is my favorite thing ever, or opt for a platter of fresh sushi. You can check out their website for more information.

Indulge your sweet tooth with a visit to Chelsea Market Baskets. This charming store is a paradise for confectionery lovers, offering a wide array of chocolates, candies, and gourmet treats even picnic baskets. From nostalgic childhood favorites to artisanal delights, you’ll find something to satisfy any craving. For more sweet treats in New York City you can check out It’s Sugar.

You can also check out Seed+Mill which offers sesame seed based desserts and spreads, these should prove to have some rather interesting tastes.

International Flavors

Chelsea Market New York CIty as I stated earlier is a melting pot of international cuisines, making it a paradise for food lovers looking for global flavors. Tacos lovers should head to Los Tacos No. 1 for authentic Mexican street food. Their mouthwatering carne asada and al pastor tacos are said to be a must have. Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to try it. It came highly recommended. You get the chance to choose from a variety of toppings and salsas to create your perfect combination. You can have a look at their menu and see if anything delights your taste buds.

One of the things I opted for was German food, as I had students that had recommended certain foods for me to try. I went to Berlin Currywurst as I had wanted to try just the thing you see in the name….Currywurst….which maybe from the picture doesn’t look attractive lol but tasted great. Currywurst is a popular fast food meal in Germany which includes ketchup, curry, and sausage of course with different variation. I had even tried making this at home myself.

My foodie in training opted for a good old slice of pizza so we went to Filaga Pizzeria where she had a slice of Margherita Pizza… From the photo below, I don’t think I need to say if she enjoyed it or not, right? But just in case you missed it, she most certainly did and I must say it was a good slice, good value for money.
