LIFE BALANCE
It can sometimes be a challenge to find some life balance between work, home, and social life, I have struggled with this for years and I can finally write about it because I found some. Finally, it took me stepping away from some things for a while but I felt like it was necessary. It can be a huge challenge, especially when you don’t take the to set goals and create healthy routines for yourself.
If you feel like things are starting to get overwhelming then consider these essential life balance habits to help you stay organized and have your mind at ease. In all honesty, I don’t know if I believe in work-life balance which is a bit different from life balance but in general, I feel like work-life balance is perfection and that my friend does not exist.
What is life balance and is it important?
When we hear the words life balance different things come to mind. Life balance looks at areas such as Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual fitness. Mental Fitness looks at different aspects such as your growth, having the ability to focus, and continued education (continuous learning). Emotional Fitness tends to look more at your behavior or attitude and the language you use and how you are with others. Physical Fitness looks at if you are in shape, your health, nutrition and lifestyle. Are you doing what you need to to go get or stay in shape? Lastly, Spiritual Fitness looks at mindfulness, awareness taking the time to be grateful, meditating and focusing on your faith or your beliefs and morals.
PRIORITIZE AND SET GOALS
More than anything else I believe it is essential to set goals and prioritize tasks when it comes on to life balance. Figure out what is important, and stay organized. I got the book Cluttered Mess to Organized Success which really helped me to organize literally every area of my life. Always remember to look at the bigger picture when making these plans so you can figure out the priorities that will help you to achieve the level of success that you are aiming for in order to help you have proper time management in your life. To succeed in life, it is crucial to prioritize and set goals.
Without clear objectives, it is easy to get sidetracked and waste time on tasks that do not lead to progress. Prioritizing means finding the most important tasks and completing them first. Setting goals means determining what you want to achieve in the short-term and long-term future. By prioritizing and setting goals, you can focus your energy and resources on tasks that matter, achieve more in less time, and increase your chances of success and improve productivity.
WORK-HOME DIVISION/ WORK LIFE BALANCE
This I can personally say can be a huge struggle, I had this problem for years. I now see the importance of creating those clear boundaries about what I do and how I do them.
No matter what’s going on I try to make sure I turn off my computer by 5:00 pm, before I would go for hours back and forth all day and all night between blogs, and trying to grow an ESL business and YouTube channel and I decided no…let me find some balance so I paused EVERYTHING…took a break and went on reset mode and only focusing on one thing at a time to avoid stress and overwhelm. Time management and having a routine are very helpful in this case.
MANAGE STRESS EFFECTIVELY
To manage stress effectively, it’s important to first identify the source of your stress then from there you can come up with a plan as to how to manage the different causes of stress in your life effectively. I have found that things such as disconnecting from social media sometimes, taking breaks, relaxing, mindfulness, and self-care have been some of the biggest things to help me relieve stress and improve my productivity.
For each person you know what your stressors are so maybe what works for me may not work for you, so find what helps you and stick to it and destress effectively. By taking these steps, you can improve your ability to cope with stressful situations and lead a healthier, more balanced life.
FAMILY TIME AND ME TIME
Sometimes work seems like it is never-ending and with that, you are dealing with family and other obligations. Well, you definitely don’t want to get to a place of burnout so my suggestion is to schedule a little time each day for some self-care, it doesn’t have to be something that takes hours. You could read a book or take a little walk to help distract you and take your mind off your everyday stress and distractions.
This can bring you to a better place mentally and will also improve your productivity. You should also set aside time for family, do dinner together as a family, have movie nights, go for walks, and much more. Find that balance for work, family, and yourself.
CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Probably my biggest challenge to date that I have made a conscious decision to work on this year. I don’t struggle with connecting with my sister but with everyone else..yea. It is important though to connect and nurture relationships because this also helps you more than you may know in terms of having a life balance.
My struggle was that after talking to 10/15/30 different people in a day, I just don’t have the energy to talk anymore lol. Work in progress though. Connecting is not hard for me or maybe for most people but staying connected is sometimes tricky. I am forever grateful to the ones who have grace with me and just know it is my personality and is always there.
FORGET PERFECTIONISM
PERFECT does not exist…that is the first thing to remember and make note of. Sometimes we sit waiting for everything to be perfect before we do things or make certain decisions, but one thing I know is that perfection doesn’t exist. So it makes sense that you just work on challenging yourself to know and understand that things will not be perfect all that does is suck away your energy and excitement for life. Aim for excellence for sure, try to be the best you can be at whatever your focus is, know that you have done your best then move on.
I do hope these habits to improve life balance are helpful to you, and don’t forget to check out the post on resetting your week.
