Things to Do in Savannah Georgia

Savannah Georgia holds and boasts a very rich history, wonderful architecture, and vibrant art, so of course I had to create this listing of things to do in Savannah Georgia. Savannah, There’s never a dull moment in this charming Southern city. Of course, there are many things you could do in the area but I wanted to share some of the top activities in my opinion, from exploring historic squares to indulging in delicious Southern cuisine, there’s something for everyone in this enchanting destination.
Must Do in Savannah Georgia / Activities in Savannah Georgia
1. Explore the Historic District
I did create a full-on detailed post about the things you could do within the Historic District. Visiting the Historic District is a MUST-DO in Savannah Georgia. This district is packed with extremely well-preserved historic buildings along with cobblestone streets and great parks, so that makes it the ideal place for everyone, nature lovers, history lovers, lovers, kids, friends, everyone! The best way to get around this area is with the Hop-On, Hop-off Trolley Tour.
2. Take a Walk on the Riverfront or Cruise on the Riverboat
In winter this area is really cold so don’t forget to dress accordingly. However, this is one of, if not the best things to do in Savannah Georgia. As you stroll along the Riverfront you will come across stunning views of the river, shops, restaurants, and bars. In doing so though make sure you check out these places properly because I went to one restaurant there and ended up sick for about a week. You can even take the riverboat cruise tour or you can just sit around and watch the boats go by.
3. Visit Forsyth Park
Forsyth Park is another place that you must visit in Savannah. It is known for its iconic fountain…duh!!. It dates back to 1858, can you believe that? The fun thing about here is that it’s a park yes but guess what there is a lot more to do there, you can grab some food, have a cup of coffee, grab a seat and watch your child goes crazy on the different slides on the playground, have a picnic, look at the historic monuments or just have fun. You should see some videos I have of us running wild taking photos, cartwheeling, and many forms of idleness.
4. Tour the Bonaventure Cemetary
Now this is for the ones who like horror and a good creepy scare. Bonaventure Cemetery is another one of the activities in Savannah Georgia that you should do. The cemetery is known for its Victorian-era-looking graves and its connection to a popular novel called ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”, there is even a Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil Tour that takes you through like the book does. You can do the tour or do it along with a guide, whichever floats your boat.
5. Take a Ghost Tour
One of the most popular activities in Savannah Georgia is to take a Ghost Tour. Exploring the haunted history of the city which is known for it’s eerie stories and supernatural occurrences. Plus they look like fun, I mean they go a bit far with the tours in the hearse but hey, for some that’s the adventure.
6. Indulge in Local Cuisine with a Foodie Tour
Another thing you definitely want to do is indulge in the local cuisine. Activities in Savannah which include food are always my favorite, so of course having or trying some Southern cuisine through touring is a must. From savoury Southern comfort food to sweet treats there is something for everyone there.
7. Grab a Bite at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room
This is located in the historic district of Savannah, Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room is a well-known classic southern spot that has been serving delicious home-cooked meals family-style forever. The feel is that of dining at your grandmother’s house on a nice Sunday afternoon with the warmth and hospitality you receive. They serve dishes such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. So this is definitely another thing you must do in Savannah Georgia.
8. Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at Leopold’s Ice Cream
If you are a lover of desserts Leopold’s Ice Cream is another must so in Savannah. It is a family-owned ice cream parlor that has been around for decades and because of this is it definitely a regular for the people in the area. The ice cream is made fresh daily with natural ingredients and unique flavors like Tutti Frutti, Savannah Socialite, and Lemon Custard. The vintage decor and friendly staff make for a charming and inviting atmosphere. I love the decor there.
9. Experience Southern Comfort Food at The Olde Pink House
The Olde Pink House is a historic mansion turned restaurant in the heart of Savannah, one of the hotspots for eating. The atmosphere and southern hospitality make it the ideal place for a dining experience and it’s also one of those ‘Instagrammable’ spots in Savannah. The menu features classic southern dishes like southern sushi with shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and pecan-crusted chicken.
10. Embrace the Arts and Culture in Savannah Georgia
If you are an art lover, Savannah Georgia is the perfect destination for you. The city is full of historical landmarks, art museums, and theaters that showcase the rich culture of the area.
11. Visit the Telfair Museums
The Telfair Museums is a collection of three museums located in Savannah Georgia. It includes Jepson Center, Telfair Academy and The Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters. They are housed in three historic buildings that reflect the rich history of the city. The Telfair Museums feature a variety of art exhibitions ranging from contemporary art to classic American and European art. The museum also offers educational programs, lectures, and workshops for all ages.
12. Check Out the SCAD Museum of Art

The museum is actually owned by the Savannah College of Art and Design, hence the name SCAD. It showcases art, photography and designs from around the world. There is a lively, fun City Market that is a must do in Savannah Georgia. This bustling market is filled with all sorts of delightful treasures, from charming boutiques to mouthwatering restaurants. It’s a hub of activity and a fantastic place to experience the true essence of Savannah.
15. Take a Carriage Tour
There are also a few companies that offer the experience to explore the city by carriage ride. You can organize one here and then have that experience with friends or family.
16. Go inside the Cathedral Basilica of St. John The Baptist
You can have a tour of the Cathedral either on your own or guided. The building and its architecture is amazing you definitely want to take some time and get to know more as it too has a lot of history. With its towering spires and stunning stained glass windows, the cathedral is a sight to behold. You definitely want to see more.
17. Do an escape room
Finding a good Escape room should definitely be on your list of activities to do, it’s a great way to have fun with friends and family and strengthen that bond of teamwork. They have some clever puzzles and challenging riddles it brings you to a world of fun and mystery. This should definitely be one of your things to do in Savannah Georgia.

Sorrel Weed House is a historic mansion with a spooky reputation. It is located right in the heart of Savannah and because of that, it attracts people from all over, so they can have that unique experience if they are seeking a little thrill.
19. Mercer-William House
The Mercer-William House is another must do in Savannah if you are a history buff and architecture enthusiast. It has a very interesting design and so it stands out. Visiting here is really for if you want to learn more about the history of the area or just want to look at the unique beauty of the house, but either way it is a good experience.
20. Try Local Beer
Maybe you didn’t know this but just in case, Savannah is actually a great location for beer lovers! You can find many breweries with something for pretty much every taste bud. You even can get the chance to explore these breweries and learn a bit more about the process and details of some of the local beers. So why not?
21. Dine at The Grey!
Would you dine at a Greyhound Bus Terminal? I mean how cool is that? It’s like delicious food with a side of nostalgia. It does have some interesting meals on the menu that you want to try. The atmosphere itself with its charm and vibrance also adds to the experience. SO you definitely want to indulge.
22. Try a Pedal Pub
I really wanted to get a shot of this for the post but it was so cool seeing these pedal pubs, if you are a drinker then for sure this is a fun experience to have with friends. Or should I call it a mobile bar….either way, it moves lol. It’s usually lively and quite interactive.
23. Do a Cocktail Mixing Class
You can take a Cocktail Mixing Class at American Prohibition Museum. Get the chance to learn how to make cocktails from award winning bartenders.
24. Do a Movie location tour and check out where Forrest Gump’s Bench one was.
Chippewa Square is the spot where Forrest Gump sat on the bench, the bench is no longer there however it is still a great spot to go get photos. Just experience the magic of cinema in Savannah.
25. See Cannons Fired at Old Fort Jackson
This historic fort is another one of the activities in Savannah Georgia that tourists like to visit. Visitors get the chance to hear and experience the sound that the cannons make as they get fired daily and the great thing is that they also have interactive programs that families can enjoy.
26. UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium
This great aquarium is located on Skidaway Island, this is actually Georgia’s first saltwater aquarium, so it’s a pretty cool place to visit so I hope you added it to your things to do in Savannah Georgia. From colorful fish to slimy sea creatures, so much to see.

If you are a foodie, then you definitely want to find a fun cooking class to enjoy. The time to unleash your inner chef is now!

This is a must do in Savannah as it is a cool place to visit and not only that it is full of interesting things from the olden days of trains. Learn a bit more about the history of railways.
29. Explore Broughton Street
This street brings character and holds a wide array of shops and restaurants. Boutiques, and mouthwatering Southern cuisine restaurants, so for shopping and history this is your spot!
30. Fort Pulaski National Monument
Fort Pulaski holds quite a significant role in the American Civil War. The architecture is impressive and its location – strategic. So next time you are looking for activities to do in Savannah Georgia, consider this.

History and cocktails, what’s your preference? The American Prohibition Museum is pretty interesting and has to be on your list of things to do in Savannah Georgia because it will help you to discover artifacts, the rise of bootleggers, and even gangsters related to the underground liquor trade. This right here is a historic gem. The Andrew Low House is another one good for architecture and history buffs. Visit the museum and hear the stories and history of the Low family. As well as some history about slavery at the time. Quite interesting.

The fun thins about Savannah is that there are so many lovely shops and boutiques around the city some obvious and some more tucked away. It’s great to walk around and enjoy and experience the area, stop for some food or drinks and just keep shopping.

If you get the chance, try and catch a live concert.
35. Go Hiking at Fort McAllister State Park
For the hikers or adventurers and just curious ones then you should definitely go check out Fort McAllister State Park. This is where history and nature meet. You can have the chance to explore this Civil War fort with several trails where you can hike, ride or just take a chill walk.
36. Do a Haunted Pub Crawl
Let’s just take a second to think about this alcohol and horror, good mix right? You will definitely start to see things that aren’t even there. Another one of the great activities to do in Savannah Georgia.
37. Davenport House
This is another Historical site in the city and a must do in Savannah. Again it looks at the history and architecture behind it. It shares a history of courage and determination.
38. First African Baptist Church
This is the first hence the oldest African American Baptist Church in North America. It was established by the enslaved thus playing a major role in the community’s fight for freedom. Very rich history here as well so it should be on your list of things to do in Savanah Georgia.
39. Venture Outside the City
While Savannah is a beautiful city with many attractions, there are also plenty of exciting things to do just a short trip away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Here are a few options for a day trip outside the city.

Located just 20 minutes east of Savannah, Tybee Island is a great spot to spend a day soaking up the sun and enjoying the beach.
