RUM IN JAMAICA – FIRST TIME
The Jamaica Rum Festival was held at Hope Gardens in Kingston Jamaica. This was my FIRST time attending such a well-spoken event. I was highly disappointed though by the weather as it was raining cats and dogs when I got there, it caused the starting time to
be pushed back a little later (I was already getting there late anyway). It was a good thing I had anticipated that sort of weather so I was quite prepared. My intention was to go both days but due to unforeseen circumstances, I could only do the Saturday.
My friend who I was planning to go with ended up having to bail last minute so that sorta killed my vibe a bit however if you know me once there is alcohol I will recover lol and so I did.
I had a few other friends there from different walks of life so I was all over the place with the different groups and that certainly didn’t take away the fun in fact it made it more fun. In going I had the expectation that I would drink as much as I could not to the point of being drunk though, then get time to recover before going home that wasn’t the case. I really didn’t drink as much as I should have lol. I promise to do better next year by going earlier.

PERFORMANCES AT JAMAICA RUM FESTIVAL
The musical lineup for the Saturday night was also good. They wereProtoje, Spragga Benz, Ding Dong, Bugle, Tesselated, Mortimer. Mortimer performed well and of course, Ding Dong got the people dancing up a storm. Tesselated did his set too. Leave it to Protoje to bring on some of the upcoming women in the industry with sounds from Lila Ike as well as Sevana. He performed well too along with Bugle and some of his great hits.
I stayed for all performances. The audience was getting a little antsy some of the times when there were changing over performers. Some performers again based on the crowds’ reaction at times seemed to have gone just a little bit over time. I enjoyed the experience and all the performances. The performances did meet my expectations.
AFTER ALL FUN AND GAMES AT JAMAICA RUM FESTIVAL
I must say I was expecting to see a lot more drunk persons than I saw. Jamaicans can really ‘hole dem likka.’ One thing I did wish though was that the samples were a bit more as well as for them to be available right throughout the festival not just up to a certain point, because it would be nice to have the additional drinks during the performances.
Upon leaving, I made the mistake and decided to leave when it was finished, I literally just went in my car and slept a bit for the traffic coming out of Hope Gardens to cool down a bit. That is however something I expected so that was fine. I will definitely be attending next year all being well, I will just plan a bit better to ensure I get the full experience.
Here are some photos that were taken at the event.
