Summer is the perfect time to create those long lasting memories with your family. It really depends on what you are looking for, maybe it is adventure, quality time or just some relaxation as a family, then this can definitely make the most of the fun yet hot season.
Here I put together a list of 12 summer family bucket list ideas that I want you to tick off as you do them as the summer progresses! Or you can check out an overall bucket list with 62 things to do this summer!
FAMILY BUCKET LIST IDEAS
- PICNIC IN THE PARK
This is maybe one of the most common things to do with the family in the summer next to the beach, but how do you make it different as a family? You want this to be on your bucket list but lets spruce it up. First you want to pack a basket with everyone’s favorite snacks and head to a local park for a picnic. I usually recommend one at a little distance to make the trip there also a little fun. Check out these picnic essentials you can buy online.
In all honesty though, sometimes you may not feel like putting together the food and snacks and all that so you can pay for a picnic service that will do the setup and everything for you. This i think should more depend on the amount of people though or if it’s some kind of special celebration, otherwise I think you should do the setup yourselves. Get yourself a nice big picnic blanket to sit on and also grab one of these picnic basket backpacks it makes things way easier! Then of course you want to have some great outdoor games lined up, whether board games, physical games whatever it is, try to eliminate screen time as much as you can.
2. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Again these are your typical things you can do but you have to put your own spin to it to make it a lot more fun and exciting. If you have great backyard space then setup a little backyard theatre for you and your family. Get a little projector and you can project it on the wall or on a screen, whatever works for you and yours and choose great family films for these movie nights, you can even make it a marathon if you wish. Grab some popcorn and enjoy your evening.
3. VISIT A ZOO or AN AQUARIUM OR WATERPARK
Plan a day trip to a zoo or aquarium and just explore the exhibits together and learn about the different animals together and enjoy the adventure of feeding or petting these animals too if it is included. It’s fun and educational for everyone that is kids and adults alike. Also make sure you take some photos to capture the moment.
4. GO ON A HIKE AND EXPLORE NATURE
Grab your family, some water bottles and snacks and head out for a lovely hike, maybe a hike to a waterfalls, if that is too much then just grab them and head to a park which has some great hiking trails. Just being outdoors together will be good for everyone, and not only that the exercise and fresh air while bonding as a family will be good for your body.
5. BEACH TRIP
Now you all know this has to be on the list, what is summer without a beach day. Pack the car, right now, today, this minute with all your beach essentials and spend the entire day just soaking up the sun, playing in the sand and taking a swim. Your essentials should include snacks, sunscreen and tons and tons of water.
6. DIY BACKYARD WATER PARK
You can make your family summer fun and exciting you can bring the party to your backyard. Create your own water park, have your kiddie pool or family pool, get some reusable water balloons, slip and slide play and even add bubble machines for a dramatic and fun experience. It’s a great way to beat the heat and you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home.
7. CHECK OUT A LOCAL FARM
Summer is usually a great time to take a family trip to a local farm close by where you can pick some fresh fruits, flowers or vegetables of course depending on the season so get you phone or computer and check out google to see if there are any farms close by and get going. Make the most of it, dress the part and just have fun as a family. There are many farms that offer tours and activities for kids which essentially makes it both fun and educational at the same time so make sure this is on your family bucket list ideas.
8. VISIT A FARMERS MARKET
This is something I personally enjoy doing, take your family with you to the local farmers market, try and sample some great fresh fruits, vegetables and other local products while supporting local farmers and artisans around you. Add this to your bucket list for sure.
9. FAMILY GAME NIGHT
Family game night is of course a must not to deviate from the regular board and card games as those are great and definitely you want to add them but also if you check Instagram and TikTok there are many game night activities that now require more movement but they are great for family game nights, helps you to loosen up and just have fun. My suggestion if you are adding this to your bucket list is to mix it up and do different types of games.
10. FAMILY BIKE RIDE
Go for a family bike ride around your neighborhood or local park. It’s great exercise and fun for everyone. Explore new paths and enjoy all the lovely scenery. Don’t forget to follow safety rules though and be safe out there. Also take photos and create memories.
11. FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY
As a family, come together and think about an organization or some way in which you can volunteer as a group and make a difference whether big or small. It’s a great way to bond but also a great way to give back to your community.
12. BACKYARD CAMPING, CAMPFIRE AND SMORES
You definitely want to tend the summer this way, if you have the space to do so have a small campfire in your backyard, bond with family, sing, play games, chat, listen to music, make s’mores, whatever works for you just make it a special ending to the summer, so make it big. Get a tent or two and make it exciting.
Hopefully this listing will help you plan a great summer with your family!
